Into The Ditch!
28 August 2008 | Tonawanda,NY
OK, I made it to Buffalo on Monday and I'm already composing a new song called "Lake Erie Blows." You guessed it...another rough crossing but I made it.
My new crew, Boat Neighbor Jan and Boat Neighbor Terry arrived on Wednesday. We finished all the preparations that day and on Thursday, I got my stick pulled. (No, Andy, that's not what I mean....I got my mast taken down!)
We even used the supports I made out of scrap lumber from the boat yard and everything seemed to work fine. Darrin, the service manager, and John and everyone at RCR Yachts were great! They were very patient and helpful and competent.
Anyway, we got the mast down and secured and made it into the Erie Canal at Tonawanda. On the way, we went through our first lock which dropped us 5 feet into the Blackrock Canal. My new crew handled it (and everything else) well.
Here's a pic of Norma Fay in her "alterered state."
