Erie Canal Days...
30 August 2008 | Fairport,NY
Well....we were up early this morning and off by 0800....in the sunshine this time! This canal thing is really cool. The bridge tenders are very cool and helpful. I just can't believe how well run this canal system is!
Like yesterday, the appearance of the canal changed as we moved along. It started very rural, manicured and pastoral and, as we neared Rochester, it began to get more of an urban / industrial look to it. Then as we neared Fairport, it eased back into a village type setting.
Fairport is a very pretty little town and dockmaster, Tom, was very nice and helpful.
We went through two locks and about a dozen opening bridges today. The crew did a great job again and we shared time at the helm to give everyone some down time.
Here's a pic from late morning.
