Well, I left Solomons Island on Friday and sailed to Reedville, Va. It was a pretty area but the town was small and a little spartan for my taste. The only bar in town closes at 9:00 PM every night! Enuff said!
So, it was up and out on Saturday morning. It was a little rough leaving the Wicomico River as there was about 15 - 20 knots of wind blowing into the river mouth against an ebbing tide. Result = big steep period seas on the nose.
After about an hour of tacking back and forth to lessen the pounding, I was finally able to get out into deeper water and things settled down. I had a pleasant motorsail to Jackson Creek off of the Painkatank River.
Unfortunately, I got a little careless entering the creek and ran aground. **ugh** After about an hour, the tide assisted me in getting off the bottom and into my spot at Deltaville Marina. This area isn't much bigger than Reedville but it seems a little more social.
I'm planning to stay here for the rest of the weekend before pressing on toward Hampton and finally Norfolk.
While traveling the last couple of days I've noticed lots of pelicans around. It's starting to feel like I'm making some progress south!
