AT LAAAAAAST!!!

23 November 2008 | Fernandina Beach, FLORIDA!!
Mike
WOO HOO! I finally made it to Florida! This morning I was up early and headed south. I could have waited until mid day to travel on a rising tide but the wind was right so I decided to risk travelling on an ebbing tide.

For those non-ICW travelling types, the risk of travelling on an ebbing tide is, if you ground, you're gonna be there a long time. You'll have to wait for the tide to finish going out, (and hope that you don't fall over on your side) and then for it to come back in enough to float you off.

Well, I lucked out but a friend, Dave on Sea Wings, did not. He went hard aground but it was close enough to low tide that he was just going to wait out the tide and hopefully float free.

On the way here, I passed by Cumberland Island, which has a herd of wild horses that live there. Apparently they're descended from horses that swam there after a shipwreck a long time ago. Unfortunately, I didn't see any.

Anyway, I'm tied up at Fernandina Harbor Marina. My Parrothead friend, Captain Don is coming for a visit this afternoon. Tomorrow I plan to head to Jacksonville, where I intend to spend a few days and get some boat jobs done.

For those of you wondering, the repair job that Lester Forbes did on my chartplotter seems to have done the trick. She's working better than ever! (knock wood!)

Anyway, here's a picture of Norma Fay resting at the dock in the Sunshine State!
