Totally Tonga

Picture: Similar to Niue, Tonga is mostly limestone and its caves are incredible. Here Elizabeth and Janice explore Swallows Cave by dingy...
Days at Sea: 359

Today was our last day with Janice - and it was a good one. We left the beautifully protected harbor of Port Maurelle, where we were visited by three humpback whales in the previous evening, and headed north to Swallow's Cave. As seen in the picture above, I stayed aboard Honeymoon while Elizabeth and Janice explored the massive cave by dingy. And if that cave was not thrilling enough, we made a second stop at nearby Mariner's cave, which requires a daring underwater swim to enter. Both caves were quiet amazing - but Mariner's Cave is truly unique...

Later in the day we took our boat to the north shore of Tu'ungasika Island to dive "Split Rock." Elizabeth, who normally only talks about how cold she was, loudly proclaimed it to be the best dive of her life. Incidentally she saw a turtle, which always seems to improve her mood, but the dive did look truly amazing.

Then it was off to town where we had drinks at the Vava'u Yacht Club before partaking in the Hospital Fund Raiser Dinner at the Aquarium Café. In all, it was a great final day in what was one of our best weeks yet aboard Honeymoon. We miss you Janice!
