Tonga Goodbyes

12 September 2009 | Vava'u Group, Tonga
Author: Seth
Picture: Elizabeth shows the Imagine Kids how to properly release the air in a balloon to fill a sail during last week's Beer Can race. As you can see, the winds were so light we needed all the help we could get.

We've had a great time in Tonga but today we need to say our goodbyes. It is especially sad as we are not only saying goodbye to Tonga but to also several of our buddy boats. It seems that Tonga is the dividing point for boats heading to either New Zealand or Australia, and most of the boats are heading to NZ for the cyclone season. So last night we helped celebrate Monique's birthday at the Giggling Whale and said our goodbyes to Zen, Dosia, Wayward Wind, Corinthia, Kena, Follow You Follow Me, Monkey Feet and Sandy and Kathy at the restaurant. But our worst goodbye will be this morning when we officially leave our long time buddy boat Imagine. We've been sailing with them since Virginia, through the Panama Canal and after 12,000 miles it finally seems we may not see each other again (at least on our boats). It feels like the end of school, but without the giddiness of summer approaching.

Thankfully a few boats are heading our way to Fiji. We'll still see Victory Cat and La Palapa, and there are sure to be new friends as well. So we'll try to stay cheery and will be sure to stay in touch with all of our fabulous new friends.

By for now...
