Monopoly

We were just boarded by the Gendarmarie (French Coast Guard). Five of them, actually. They were nice enough and while the entire experience felt like a home invasion (because it was), it is nice to know that they are out here patrolling these waters and making them safe for cruisers to play in. But what was really upsetting was that we were a little hung over from our previous evening and the boat looked like a disaster area. Not the best way for us to make our first impression with the French Officials.

It all started yesterday morning at 8am when we had Drew and Marge from Dosia over for Breakfast Burritos with bacon. Bacon, it turns out, is one of those things we have been missing from "real life" and to have found some quality bacon in Papeete was exciting. In return for breakfast with bacon, Drew helped me do a little maintenance on my out-board engine that failed to start the day before. Thankfully a nice French boater towed me back to Honeymoon, but now I needed to switch from diesel repair mode to gasoline 4-stroke engine repair mode and it threw me into a head spin. So it was great to have Drew's help and together we drained and cleaned the carb, cleaned the jet, swapped the spark plug and cleaned the fuel filter. When it worked on the first try we celebrated by hitting the nearby town of Fare and rented bicycles with the girls.

The bike ride around the island was great. In all it took about three hours for us to circumnavigate the big island (Huahine Nui) and the bikes were worth the $10 we spent for the 6 hour rental. Except for Elizabeth's, which had no brakes for the San Francisco worthy hills. But no worry, we survived and toasted our victory over a few beers at a coastal restaurant. And so around 3pm in the afternoon our evening of drinking began...

Fast-forward to 8pm and we are engaged in an epic battle of Monopoly. Elizabeth has hotels built on her far from interesting property of St. James Place, and Drew has just put houses on Boardwalk and Park Place. Marge and I are resorting to margaritas for comfort. We're then joined by Ditmar and his crew from the nearby Lagoon 440 Carinthia and the party on Honeymoon is official. We put more beers in the cooler and proceeded to have a great night.
