Odds and Ends

The weather was glorious this past weekend: sunny and in the 80's, low humidity and breezy. But Patti has been working so hard on her boat skills that I decided she needed a break from my incessant harping on sailing, so...
On Saturday, we spent the day at Blue Shutters, then went to an early dinner at Matunuck Oyster House. And on Sunday, we went to the Elephant's Trunk. It wasn't a complete non-boating weekend: I bought a Stanley tool kit at the flea market. I wanted a socket wrench set and other tools just for the boat, and I wanted one of those plastic carrying cases for it. I found one at the flea market for $20. It doesn't have screw drivers, but I can add some of those.
So yesterday (Monday, 6/24), I went to the boat after work by myself. I wasn't tempted to try and leave the dock by myself; it was overcast, hot and humid, and the winds were very light. But I did want to deliver the new tool kit, and more importantly, install my new tide clock.
I had been looking on line for a good one, but everything that looked halfway decent (I wanted brass, at least 6 inches in diameter) was either a combo clock/tide clock or pretty expensive. I finally broke down and bought one of the "expensive" ones. It came on Saturday, and I put it in yesterday, where the old combo clock/tide clock had been on the port bulkhead. There has got to be a way to get that acid stain out of wood. Baking soda? I also took the opportunity to add biocide to the diesel tank. I did forget to check the level of anti-freeze as recommended by Joy.
Today, Patti has a solo lesson with Joy. Hopefully, it won't be cancelled because of the weather (I'm in DC so I won't be joining them). The plan is to have Joy show Patti the ropes while they are at the dock. Fingers crossed.
