Treasure Cay

12 January 2009
We are anchored in Treasure Cay. It is clean and quiet. We pay $10/night for the privilege with that we get a pool and showers! Yeah for showers. Right now Brie and Colt are in there. Darby and are by the pool. Dave is out lobstering, hope he catches a couple big ones. We have conch for the grill marinating in the fridge. This morning we finished up some schoolwork that we blew off the last two days. We are at a marina but right now all I can hear is the breeze ticking through the palm fronds. It is 80 and mostly sunny. Retirement is so tough I don't know if I can take this much longer. lol LOL LOL.

We plan on two days here then to Hope Town but I could get used to this.
I have decided that all I want for Christmas is my two tan feet!
We left off yesterday when Dave, Alan (Civil Twilight), John (Froya) and Brie were out hunting lobster. We will call that mission a success! They came home with a five gallon bucket FULL of big spiny lobster, seven altogether, here they call them Crawfish or just "bugs". I call them delicious. We had Alan, Gerri, John and Emma over for a lobster feast. I made lobster salad, lobster nachos and steamed buttered lobster chunks. We shared 6 bottles of wine and talked until 9pm. For us this is a very late night out. John and Emma (Froya) had never eaten lobster before. They loved it! We all did, except Colton who is picky about everything edible, except for candy and junk food. Brie made fresh bread, which was delicious and John brought chocolate from Norway. Who says you can't eat well (and free) on a boat.

We went snorkeling today at a spot not too far from Treasure Cay. There were thousands of fish - all kinds of colorful reef fish. They are not afraid of people. We saw a couple of sea turtles too. The water is about 70 degrees, just a wee bit chilly. We are doing school now - long division is a butt kicker. There is a cold front with rain coming through tomorrow, so we will put is our safe anchorage, probably leaving for Hope Town on Wednesday.

Today we encountered our first boat engine problem. We woke early, as usual and tried to watch a little news. Well that didn't happen instead we got a low battery alert. After pulling apart Colton's cabin to check on the battery bank and starboard engine then asking for a second and third opinion. Then switching to a spare alternator. Then switching back. Then rewiring the solar and wind generators. There was a consensus and success in rewiring the existing alternator which had corroded and did not have a good connection. John and Alan were a tremendous help. We are on an energy diet until the batteries are recharged.
Brie and I are sitting in the bar using the free wifi. The cats, (kitty variety not boats) here roam in the open eaves of the building. Darby is napping. Dave is reading and Colt is finishing up geography. The cold front mom and dad brought south from Maryland with them moved over the Abacos last night so it is a chilly 70. LOL. The sun finally came out a little bit ago. We shopped at the little grocery here. It is very small and has limited selection. No more super giant for me. Today they had no charge card machine, luckily I had cash. It is always an adventure being in a third world country.
All is well in paradise.
We are leaving Treasure Cay and heading for Hope Town in the morning. The wind should be going with us so it will be a nice sail. Froya and Civil Twilight are going too. Last night was pizza night at the marina. We devoured two large. It has been awhile since we had that treat. Everyone is well here. There is a cold front passing over us so it is a chilly 68 degrees. We had to break out sweats and jackets. I know, poor us.
