George Town

20 February 2009 | Exumas
Dave is getting really good with a spear sling. He caught three
snappers they will make a great dinner tomorrow. We entered into
'civilization' again around 1230 today. George Town is a relatively
big town in these parts. Maybe the size of downtown upper marlboro.
LOL. Everything is closed on Sunday and you can walk the whole place
in half an hour.
Tomorrow we will grocery ship. The last few days have been all dry
foods and canned goods. It's like eating from a soup kitchen. We are
anxiously awaiting fresh fruits and veggies. Darby and colton are
improving their swimming skills. The water temp has finally gone over
75. Making it agreeable to even an old iguana like me. We plan on
stating here for a while. There are a lot of boats with kids on them.
Will send more soon. Lisa

We have been here a week now our longest stay in the islands. Finally there are other boat kids. We are anchored of Volley ball Beach. There are tons of organized activities. Brie has been participating in art/watercolor class. Colton is working with the kids choir. Darby makes friends with everyone on the beach and if they are big enough she wrangles them into pushing he on the swing.

Colt and his friends built a raft from junk lumber. It actually footed until some grump dismantled it. Darby is learning her letters. All the kids have sun bleached hair. You might not even recognize them when we get home.

We met a real nice couple on Star (Gail and Bob) who are actually friends of our next door neighbors. 1,067 miles from home and still further proof that it is a small world after all.

There is a nice market with tons of fresh fruit and veggies. This is a treat after living from dry goods and cans for a while. We have become a little more immune to the outrageously expensive food. $12.00 peanut butter, $6.00 chips and $5.00 cereal are easier when you've gone without.

The water is a warm 75 and the air is82. It's hard to complain about too much when you are living in a tropical paradise.

Next stop will be Long Island. This will put us past our goal of crossing the Tropic of Cancer and will be our turning around point. Then who knows. Will keep you posted.lisa

We are still in George town exumas. There is tons to do. There are upwards of 400 boats. Everyday there are activies planned by other boaters. Volleyball, happy hours, conch horn making. We went to beach church under the causarina trees. The kids sang in the junior choir. We competed in a team trivial pursuit tournament. Brie's team came in first of the kids groups. We are waiting for the wind to calm again. We will go to the remote unsettled Jumentos. Then north to conception and little San salvadore cays. Wifi is horrible. Skype is impossible. We are all healthy and safe no need to worry. Write soon. Lisa.
We will be in George town a few more days. Brie is playing amazing grace on the keyboard at beach church in the morning. She has been practicing on a loaned keyboard and is very excited. The kids all were invited to a birthday party on hamburger beach for two boat kids turning 13. They had a blast and we are going back for the bonfire after dark. Weather is gorgeous on land but the wind is blowing the wrong way. Supposedly Tuesday it should be good for us to leave. We will be going to the uninhabited chain called the Jumentos bit we will be traveling with Dave and Nancy and their two boys, Chris and Josh, on Liberty. They are from tx. The boys get along great. Do not worry if you do not hear from us for a bit. I will email as soon as I can but this place makes croom look like a major city.
