22 October 2014 | Last few days in Valencia
Still lovely sunny & hot
Here we are out for a last tapas session with our good friends Patrick & Jane (also pontoon neighbours in our marina). A big thank you to this fab couple who helped settle us in to Valencia.
And thanks also to all the super sailors we've met along the way & enjoyed sharing our experience with. Hopefully we'll meet up again soon for a Menu del Dia with a few bevies.
So the Hurley Burley crew are signing off for now. We'll let you all know when we're bobbing about on the ocean waves again.
Thanks to all for your support on the blog. Your comments have kept us well entertained.
Cheers - Stace & Stu
Aliens from "The Abyss"?
11 October 2014 | Real Club Nautico, Valencia
Starting to cool down - only 28deg today!
We've been to Valencia's Oceanagraphic Aquarium and seen aliens from The Abyss (the movie, for those Sci-Fi fan). Couldn't believe it when we came across these beautiful creatures which are bioluminescent, so the look like they have a little light show going on in their gelatinous bodies.
They're called "warty comb jellyfish", but fortunately they don't sting (been there, done that)
People told us to allow 4 hrs to go around the aquarium - sadly we didn't believe them - we could have spent 6 hrs, just watching the playful dolphins, funny penguins, curiously repetitive (mad?) belugas, and the humungous, lumbering walruses, let alone all the other smaller but wondrous species.
We've posted a few more shots of this amazing looking creature in the Gallery section of the blog.
Oh wow - Valencia is great!

Rain & sun & lightning
We arrived in Valencia a couple of days ago after a quick 12hr crossing from Ibiza (light winds but a lovely following swell to push us across). Unfortunately we've got a couple of worn cone clutches on our throttles, so when the engines are warm, the gears don't quite operate as they should. So Stu did a magnificent job of reversing alongside the marina's waiting pontoon, then manoeuvred us into our allotted berth very smoothly.
Our folding bikes are seeing great use again as we travel around old & new Valencia. Mayor Boris should really take note of this city's fabulous bike network - all the bike paths are completely segregated from the roads on their own pavements, and most of the time cyclists have right of way on crossings. It's been brilliant getting around town.
The shot above is the City of Arts & Sciences. We're looking forward to our visit here (apparently need to allow 3 days to see it all!
Will report back soon with exploration updates :D
Ibiza closing down, time to come home
24 September 2014 | Cala Bassa, Ibiza
Spectacular thunderstorms
After a fab few months cruising around the Baelerics, lots of places are starting to close down and the weather has started to turn, so we've decided to put the boat to bed for the winter.
We're spending our last few days on Ibiza & Formentera visiting a few closing down parties, before we make our way back to the Spanish mainland. We plan on leaving Hurley Burley in Valencia and we'll return to the UK at the end of October.
Fun family visit

Still HOT!
Stu's sister, Tracey, & niece Hollie, came out for a quick visit - so we got to celebrate Hollie's birthday with them. We stayed in San Ann overnight, but visited some lovely local calas during the day.
And of course, we did the obligatory visit to sunset strip & Cafe del Mar. Had a wonderful time, watching a gorgeous sunset and joining in the usual Ibizan ritual of clapping & cheering when the sun dropped below the sea's horizon.
It was a great visit & we were sad to see them go. Thanks for coming out to see us guys :D
P.S. More pics in the photo gallery!
Stu on the 1s & 2s at Mambo

37deg today!
Well it didn't take long for the powers that be to recognise who was in their midst, and Stu was invited in to do a set at Cafe Mambo, on Ibiza's famous sunset strip. Just a shame it was before anyone arrived ;-)
