About 4 pm (PDT or 1 am UTC) today, our navigation computer indicated we had 1,358 nm to go to reach the Marquises Islands, and ship's log said we had sailed the exact same distance - hence our conclusion. It's not quite that easy, but since we're not docking space vehicles we said good enough! The sailing over the last couple days have not been easy however. Wind and waves had been up, so we're sailing with a double-reefed main and partially rolled genoa. Rain squalls rip through our nights (we watch them coming on the radar) and days, and it's really muggy! On-watch, we wear our swimming trunks and drive bare footed to help keep our cloths as dry as possible. When the rain squalls hit we have to close the boat hatches which makes the 85 degree temperatures below decks absolutely unbearable. Otherwise we're making good time with another 165 mile run over the last 24 hours.
Fred is keeping the crew happy with awesome meals (this morning was my favorite - pancakes)!!
