Awesome Sailing to the Tuamotus'
02 May 2016 | Passage to Tuamotus', French Polynesia
Gerry
Since leaving Huku-Hiva yesterday morning, we've been sailing fast in very calm seas. Our first day's run was 170 miles, beam reaching in 12 knots of wind under gorgeous blue sunny skies. We are also happy to report the temperatures and humidity are slightly lower as well, so that's helping our morale. We've rigged the sun shades around the cockpit, so we're staying out of the sun as much as possible. Interestingly, we started our passage the same as two other sailing yachts, so we are keeping a watch on each other via our AIS location beacons and are in periodic conversations via the VHF radio. This afternoon we saw first piece to flotsam in the water since leaving the Mexico, a large fender or buoy. Also, Ken hooked another large Marlin, but managed to get his lure back. We can't figure out where all the Tuna are Dorado are and are puzzled why these huge Marlin are interested in our small lures? We plan to make landfall Wednesday, so a couple more days to go. We hope our luck and the wind continue in our favor. Cheers from Huzzah!
