Hitching a ride - Polynesian style
27 May 2016 | Uturoa, Raiatea Island, French Polynesia
Everywhere you go here, men and women are paddling in hi-tech canoes with small amas. They seem to do it for recreation, fitness, racing for just for leisure. I've even seen a couple of old guys fishing out of these craft. And they are fast!
Here's a pic of a young lad that caught our wave and rode in to town with us for 3 miles or so. Very fun. The Polynesians are so friendly...everybody waves, and they'll often come out to your boat just to say Hi (okay, they actually say Ia Orana, which is Tahitian).
Life is good aboard Huzzah!
