Ashore in Raiatea

After getting our anchor free we decided to continue working down the east coast of Raiatea. We first took a mooring buoy off a small harbor, where we able to get ashore for a 2 mile walk into the village store where we scored some locally grown romaine lettuce and fresh yellow fin tuna. We eventually went a few miles further, taking a mooring ball in Faaroa Bay. As usual, the locals are super friendly, and we had a lad come out in his hi-tech canoes to just say hi! This place also had modern facilities to store and launch canoes, so everybody is out paddling. Men, women, old, young...it seems to be the national activity. We launched our kayaks, and Gerry did some exploring of the sizable river that empties into the bay. Very dramatic views as the sun began to set, so lots of pictures of amazing reflections. Unfortunately, we had a quite a bit of rain overnight, so it was a bit warm down below for sleeping. Next day, we tied up to the Uturoa city dock - right in the city center! In addition to being free, the best thing is how close all the stores and our favorite wifi pub was to our dock. Lots of locals hanging out (Friday night) later than we anticipated, but they are always very civil. Cheers from Huzzah!
