August 17 to August 23rd
07 February 2019
We awoke to rain about 2:30am and then slept in until 8am and then spent the morning cleaning the boat , defrosting the freezer , wiping down the deck seating , etc. When the rain stopped after noon we went for a walk , bought ice cream from a special shop and walked around the town exploring and found an art show sponsored by local artists . We were surprised how few people there were around in vocation time . On our second night in Buckhorn we were surprised that the docks were not filling up .
We woke up at 7:15am on an overcast morning and cool breeze . We were on our way by 8:50am . We were able to keep a steady pace of over 8 kts in a following sea dodging houseboats , sea doo's and of course the many fisherman who were enjoying the great fishing weather . By 11 am we were in Bobcaygeon . There were so many boat that we had to tie up across from the area with power until someone left . Friends Ann and Laura had joined us on the boat for a visit when a spot opened up and we squeezed in with landing assistance from fellow boaters . "Making Memories" had rafted off us until they got a spot on the wall . We were invited to join them for supper up town for pizza and enjoyed sharing stories. We were back at the boat by 7:30 and were ready to sit back and relax .
Sunday morning we said goodbye to Jerry and Jean aboard "Making Memories" and the boat astern of us left so we backed into the end spot to avoid the nuts falling off the cedar trees . I washed the boat while Lori cleaned and vacuumed before lunch and then we went for a long walk and then watched the goings on as ice creamers look for a place to tie up around the lock and sea walls . We also caught up on emails .
On Monday we were up early and were ready to move to the blue line to get through the lock at 9 am .We were through the lock by 9:15am and arrived in Fenlon Falls by 11am . We had lunch and cleaned up . The laundry was bagged up and headed for the laundromat . Lori went shopping as I did the laundry and upon returning to the boat I caught up on emails and Lori put away the laundry . After a short nap we went for a walk downtown visiting antique stores . When we returned we got out our chairs and met our neighbours Rosey and Gary from Peterborough . Supper was late and the evening ended watching TV . It was a mild breezy day.
Tuesday was a rainy day , good for emailing , washing the boat , watching movies .
Wednesday we were out on Cameron lake and at Rosedale lock by 10:20 and stopped at Rosedale Marina to pick up a bilge pump that I had ordered and installed it before we moved on . We then crossed Balsam Lake and entered the canal toward Kirkfield lift lock which drops 45'. As usual Lori is waitin g to see the key hole bridge on Canal Lake . By 2:50pm we reached Portage lock #39 where we are staying for the night . Nice place to stay but NO power .We went of a great walk after supper .
We left lock 39 at 9 am passing lock 40 noting from the boat all the repairs we had seen the night before on our walk . By 10am we were on Lake Simcoe being its normal white cap waterway and were at Orillia Marina by noon . We settled in and then headed for the Opera House only to find there was only 1 ticket left - book ahead next year .... Of course a disappointed Lori took her frustrations out by checking every store on the way back to the boat !!!! After a power nap , catching up on emails and supper we were off for exploring the town again to get ready for tomorrows shopping !!! I mixed up a new batch of muffins .
