August 5th to August 11th
02 September 2019
I had cleaned the fuel filters the day before and had an air lock and had trouble starting the port motor - everything good . We are off to Chaffey's lock today for a 2 night stay . We arrive and get a great spot to tie up right at the lock . We had planned to stop at Newboro but it was full . A few days ago I had written on the AGLCA to people trying to find out to get their son from Ottawa to meet them . They took one of my options - the train to Kingston - and they pulled into Chaffey" lock and we went over to meet them .
On the 6th we We walked a bit and ended up at the Opinicon Inn for ice cream and used their wifi for a while . It started to rain in the late afternoon and after supper we went for a walk and we met Steve and Arlene who used to have a pontoon boat "Minnow" and we met them at Poomanallee lock . Found out a bit more about solar .
On the 7th we moved on to Davis lock and got a good tie spot - with a screaming little kid in the boat behind us . Everyone at the lock could hear her including the lock staff who said it had been going on for a day already . While we were there Peter and Kathy Slykerman , who used to live in Ingersoll , stopped to lock through in their boat - we had a short talk . And we watched movies !!!
The next day the boat with "kid" left - quiet . We did some walking and talked to some boaters but mostly QC boats . We are not going to get to see Maggie and Grant this year as they are having company . We will move on tomorrow .
On the 9th we left Davis lock and were held up at Jones Falls as they were working on the lock gates . While at Jones Fall we met Dave and Tanya from Napanee and had a great talk and they suggested that we go up the Napanee River for a visit . When we cleared the lock we were on our way to Upper Brewers where we tied up for 1 night , not much going on here . It rained soon after we got here .
On the 10th we headed for Kingston marina for a 2 night stay . When we arrived at Lower Brewers lock we had to sit and wait while they filled the lock and swung the bridge - very slow opening . This is the second bridge we noticed is very slow - Brass Point Bridge is the same - which can be dangerous in the wind at both places . At Kingston Mills lock we had to sit in the bay for 20 minutes as the lock was backed up . 4 boats were there for 45 minutes before they could get on the blue line . Boats do not pull up so there is room for more boats and the lock people Do Not take the responsibility to get boaters to tie their boats closer - IT'S THEIR LOCK !!! We finally got through and to Kingston Marina at 1:55pm for 2 nights before heading to Picton .We walked up town for a while in the afternoon , supper and movies . We did laundry the next morning and I hauled 8 cases of water to the boat while Lori did the laundry and grocery shopping . After lunch we walked to the waterfront for a while , tried to get into a restaurant with lots of seats open and finally left . We had a beer on the boat instead , emails , supper and movies .
