Hi ,
We went to the local market near the boat in the misty weather and then the rain started . We had hung around to piss off some Belleville boaters who tried to screw us out of our power . Off we down the Napanee River in the rain knowing where the buoys are by sight and following the red line on the chart plotter which sometimes takes me on what appears to be land as the charts don't exist in the river . It pretty much quit raining by the time we got to Long Reach . We arrived in the Trent Port marina about 2:20pm . Lori did wash . I couldn't get reservations at Tomasso's so Shawna and Jerry got reservations at a restaurant near their home - Great . They dropped us off at the marina .
In the morning Lori did laundry and I worked around the boat . Then we walked up town only to find out most stores were closed . Later we had Carol and Gary from Illinois over for drinks and found out they are doing the Trent Severn and maybe the Rideau after !! They are in a 27 ft small boat he bought and fixed up . Really looks great but as we found out a few days later still has a few issues but they are still boating in "D DUCK" .
On the 19th Lori walked up town to a walk-in-clinic to get something for her feet . I met her there and we went to Tomasso's for lunch . Then back to the boat to get ready to have Carol and Michael over for afternoon drinks and snacks and chatting . As they left Shawna and Jerry dropped by before we leave tomorrow morning . We did a final load of wash and then watched a movie .
On the 20th we left for Frankfort at 9am and after 6 locks we arrived at lock 6 and tied up for 2 nights . We walked into town for something to do , had a snoop in the grocery store and bought a drumstick and walked back to the boat . We slept in the next morning and they started getting ready for Mark Dobson to come for lunch . He comes to see us every summer - he was the chief scout for the Winnipeg Jets and now is starting to retire a little bit each over the next few years . We hope to see him in Florida . We had a short nap and caught up on emails .We left Frankford at 8:20am and before we got to lock 7 we saw Mark at his cottage along the Trent River and waved good bye . There are lots of camp grounds along the way to lock 8 , Percy''s Reach . We arrived at Campbellford at 1:10pm and the sun is still shining !!
We worked cleaning the boat , Lori inside and me on the deck cleaning carpets , hosed out the boat floor , wiped down the seats and washed the boat . We walked to the Canadian Tire and a flee market . Lori bought stuff and the market and I bought stuff at Cdn Tire . Lori stopped at No Frills on the way back to the boat . We met a couple from Brighten on the dock and chatted for about an hour , and then movie night .
On the 24th Lori was up early and headed to the bakery only to find out you can't get apple fritters til 9:30am , settled for do nut holes , not so great . We did No Frills in the afternoon for some sale items and then walked the trail from the boat to the swinging bridge and back for the sights and exercise about 1 1/2 hr .
On the 25th we had the heat on in the am to warm things up and left Campbellford about 8:20am and ended locking thru with 2 boats from Belleville who were going as far as they could for a week . One couple had had about all they could stand of the other as Lori found out in the lock at Hastings . We arrived in the marina at 1:40pm . We met Gary and Carol whom we had met in Trenton as they had boat problems but were finally ready to get going .
On the 26th we headed for Peterborough at 7:25 am after exchanging some dvd's at the marina . There are lots more campgrounds along the way before Rice Lake . As we slowed to enter the Otonabee River the synchronizer quit working so onto manual throttles . We arrived in Peterborough at 11:55am . We walked to Farmboy and bought some meat and cheese . We bought some beef for Gary and Carol and they loved it . Great day !!
On the 27th it was dull and rainy so it was laundry and a walk to No Frills and the boat store - bought new boat brush and plastic cleaner . Lori treated us to chicken wings at Riley's along with a beer chaser - Great .
