When I imagined the Bahamas I thought they would be islands all within eyesight, like the British Virgin Islands. Nope. Our first few islands in Bahamas will take days, if not a couple days, to reach. Bliss, Stray Cat, and Summer Wind leave Bimini and are followed by a big squall. We decide to sit the storm out on Mackey Shoal, a shallow bit of sand in the middle of the banks. We hunker down and anchor with 200’ of chain. We get some wind, but our first Bahamian Squall passes us right by. Next morning we are up early and head to Great Harbor Cay. What a great day of sailing! Probably the best in my life!
