Our Last Night on the Road!

Not much to report for yesterday - Bill drove and drove and drove. We left Slidell, Louisiana and stopped for the night in Lake City, FL. I had wanted to stop at Florida Caverns State Park but the tickets for the tour of the caverns are first come, first served and as we neared I called and we [...]

Sightseeing in Solomons

07 June 2018 | Spring Cove Marina, Solomons, MD
Partly cloudy, Low 70s, breezy
Today was a copy of yesterday morning - sunny, cool, and calm. The anchor was pulled and we motored to Spring Cove Marina to fuel up and decided to take a slip there. Once we were docked, we had lunch and got the bikes out. Unfolding them after a long break is always a challenge, but we managed and then found the tires were flat. Fortunately the office here had a tire pump so we were set. The Calvert Marine Museum was our first stop. I was very impressed by their collection and displays - I think this museum tops the one in St. Michaels - the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. It even includes an "aquarium" with three adorable sea otters and a huge fossil collection and amazing skeleton display. The lighthouse is also very authentic with antique furniture which makes it much more "believable. " It is amazing how spacious those structures are! Afterwards we biked toward the point (the end of the road) and back to check out all the "town" had to offer. A cold beer sounded good, but most of the bars were not open for some reason. We ended up at the Angler where we had eaten the last time we were here. Bill had wings along with his beer, of course! We passed the marina and headed for the Weis Market, riding along the very busy highway. A few staples were picked up (olive oil was the item we "needed") and we rode back. Wine time followed, and then dinner on the boat. A quiet evening, which cooled quickly - great weather for sleeping!
