Pool Time, Picnic, and Fireworks!

98 degrees, sunny, humid
Tuesday, July 3, Rock Hall, MD
John came downstairs this morning with a very pained expression. He had strained his back playing beach volleyball in Mexico, and is really suffering today. Bill and I have both dealt with this sort of pain so we know how he feels. Hopefully he can get to see the doctor today! Colby went to practice (hobbling) and we left for the boat, stopping for breakfast on the way. Today is another unbearably hot day. It has been around 98 degrees for the past four days with very high humidity. It does get hot in Florida, and it stays hot for most of the summer, but never like this. Right now it is 8 degrees cooler in Punta Gorda! Joe and Julie and Tootsie (their very cute wiener dog) arrived around noon to spend the day at the pool. We floated and chatted with some friendly folks for several hours, until we were all "pruney," then took showers and dressed for the July 3rd party. Madeline, the marina owner, organizes this each year. We all bring a dish to share and she supplies hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, and ice cream sundaes. This all leads up to fireworks at 9:15, presented by the Rock Hall Fire Company. ET and Joanne arrived and we learned from them that our friend George, who was headed to New England by boat, had to turn around in Lewes, Delaware due to catastrophic dinghy failure (it is only four years old!) and a bad eye infection. He should be here tomorrow sometime if all goes well. It was a nice party, although it was really, really hot. But as it got dark the wind picked up due to storms all around us, so watching the fireworks show from the dock was very comfortable. After 30 minutes of oohs and aahs, the show ended and we said Goodnight. Maybe the hot weather will break tomorrow?
