A Short Day to Make Up for Yesterday...
23 October 2018 | Bellhaven, NC
Mostly cloudy, Low of 36, High of 68 degrees, breezy
There was no need to hurry today so we took it slow this morning. Another chilly morning – Bill broke out the “heater buddy” which is a small heater device that uses propane from a small green tank so the cabin was comfortable when I got up. After breakfast, we pulled anchor at 9:00 am and headed for Bellhaven Marina. By 10:30 we were pulling into our slip (see photo). Laundry was free! So I ran two loads while we took showers and tended to other chores. Leftover chicken became chicken salad for lunch. Then Bill took a nap. We walked into town and found this was yet another town that must at one time have been a bustling community, but now, not so much. We visited the Bellhaven Memorial Museum which was a cross between a historical museum and Ripley’s Believe It or Not. Every item there had been donated by local families or by those who have visited and then sent items to be displayed. What a collection! We decided we could probably start our own museum if we kept all that we had from our families – old clothing, furniture, knickknacks, tools, kitchen items, etc.! There was also a collection of over 30,000 buttons! Back to the boat for wine time, and another couple, Sue and Carl, knocked on the boat and joined us. Turns out Sue spent her childhood in Langhorne! After they left we headed to dinner at the Fish Hook Café – food was good but sadly they had run out of several things Bill wanted. After dinner we went back to the boat to watch NCIS (!) and then it was bedtime!
