Settling in for the Storm
25 October 2018 | Morehead City, NC
Partly cloudy, low 50, high 61
As the sun rose we hiked to the showers and back, then threw the lines and started for Morehead City at about 8:45. There was a nice breeze, so we motorsailed up the Neuse River most of the way, but then put the sails away as we entered Adams Creek and Canal. This area was very protected and quiet except for a few boats that passed us. We did see many damaged roofs from the hurricanes that passed through here. Bill navigated the markers expertly and we arrived at Morehead City Yacht Basin and backed into a slip. He had called another marina but they were not open to transients due to hurricane damage, and when we registered here four of the restaurants on the list we were given were crossed out due to damage. After a little quiet time we headed for the waterfront where the shops and restaurants are, just a few blocks from our slip. There were actually no shops open except a doggie gift store and the Big Rock T shirt store. We visited this and Bill got a couple of shirts - Big Rock is off the coast and is the name of a huge Blue Marlin Tournament here. We stopped at Redfish Grill for a couple of drinks, and then stopped at The Ordinary where we had chicken wings and cheese curds. Both were delicious and we may be back there tomorrow during the rainstorm that is headed this way. We returned to the boat for some TV, phone calls, and then bedtime. Nothing big on the schedule tomorrow - just boat chores while the storm passes by! (You can barely see Impulse's mast on the right among the huge Sportfisherman boats that fill this marina.)
