Our Last Night on the Road!

Not much to report for yesterday - Bill drove and drove and drove. We left Slidell, Louisiana and stopped for the night in Lake City, FL. I had wanted to stop at Florida Caverns State Park but the tickets for the tour of the caverns are first come, first served and as we neared I called and we [...]

We Passed! I Think...

30 October 2018 | Capers Creek, SC
Low 45, High 70, sunny
The anchor was up and we were on our way at 7:30 am, just as it was getting light enough to see channel markers. Everything was very wet – very dewy! – so lots of towels went to drying the dodger and storm enclosure so Bill could see. The tide was with us so we flew down the Wacamaw, but then when nearing Georgetown it turned against us. We saw a Coast Guard inflatable approach and board another vessel, and then heard them contact another boat. Hmmm, what was going on? Then it was our turn, and they called and then boarded our boat for a safety check. Two officers – one just filled out a form while the other asked the questions and checked things out. We seemed to “pass,” and they left a copy of the form and returned to their boat. Phew! After that the currents were with and then against us at each creek we passed, but all in all it was a pretty fast trip, so we ended up anchoring in Capers Creek, closer to Charleston than we originally planned. 77 miles in ten hours today! That is a lot! It was a sunny, mild day and sunset was beautiful during wine time. We had dinner, watched NCIS, and then went to bed. No rush tomorrow – not a long trip to the St. Johns Marina just past Charleston.
