Our Last Night on the Road!

Not much to report for yesterday - Bill drove and drove and drove. We left Slidell, Louisiana and stopped for the night in Lake City, FL. I had wanted to stop at Florida Caverns State Park but the tickets for the tour of the caverns are first come, first served and as we neared I called and we [...]

Welcome to the Sunshine State!

10 November 2018 | Fernandina Beach, FL
80, partly cloudy, late thunderstorms
Welcome to the Sunshine State! Bill and Tracy put in over 60 miles today and made it to Fernandina Beach. For much of the day the tide flowed to their advantage, but then as they neared an inlet it flowed against them and really slowed the boat down. But the weather was mild and they hooked up to a mooring in Fernandina Beach, took the dinghy in for showers at the marina, and walked to the oldest continuously operating bar in Florida for a few beers to celebrate! Thunderstorms arrived, so they waited them out, had dinner, and then returned to the boat. Back in Philly it was cold and rainy all day. Before it got too windy I put a coat of paint on the storm door after snuggling with Mary for a few hours while Kim slept. Then we headed to BJs to stock up, had lunch at Qdoba (Yum!), and picked up a keg of beer. The Keg-a-rator stopped working last week, so Darren had to replace it (It is actually a chest freezer which he modified with a temperature sensor and carbon dioxide hookup to hold four kegs.) Tonight when he got home he put it all together with the commercial keg and a keg of hard cider he made from their pears. Two more kegs of beer he made last week will be installed before guests arrive for Thanksgiving, so they should be set. Once we got home from errands Kim, Mary, and I settled in the brewery (an outbuilding that Kim and Darren renovated a few years ago) and organized and hung things on the walls. (see photo) Darren will be installing counters made of wood milled from a tree that fell in their yard and then the brewery will officially be open. We had used this space for a kitchen last year while theirs was not functional, and it is a nice place to hang out.
