Another Road Trip! Going North...

We are on the road and here is the story.

Our Last Night on the Road!

Not much to report for yesterday - Bill drove and drove and drove. We left Slidell, Louisiana and stopped for the night in Lake City, FL. I had wanted to stop at Florida Caverns State Park but the tickets for the tour of the caverns are first come, first served and as we neared I called and we [...]

Finally in California!

We awoke to another warm day in Arizona, showered, and went to Denny's for breakfast. I had a combo that included a strawberry crepe and it was scrumptious! Got on the road at 9:45 am and the temp was already 100! Traffic in Phoenix was pretty heavy, but once out of the area it wasn't too bad. The terrain changed again and was more mountainous and very, very dry. Tumbleweeds and cacti grew along the road and it was very sandy.
As we crossed the Colorado River into California the vegetation increased and things were greener and more crowded. Obviously, irrigation is used to grow palm trees in nurseries and greenery in areas.
We stopped for lunch (114 degrees) at a Burger King in Cabazon and happened upon the Cabazon Dinosaurs, a roadside attraction that had been there for quite awhile. Two gigantic dinosaurs stand right next to the Burger King, and if you pay admission (we didn't) there are others to see and a museum of fossils and other oddities. Great for families.
As we neared the Los Angeles area traffic increased and so did the crowding. Busy, busy!! But we watched the temperature drop along the way, settling in at 75 in Hermosa Beach. We found our way to Zedros' house and settled in. It was great to see them, and wine and dinner were very good, then we headed to the rooftop deck to watch the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. We had to wrap in blankets as it got chilly! Early bedtime agreed with us - it was a long trip but so far enjoyable.
