Exploring Los Angeles...

After breakfast and showers we headed for the La Brea Tar Pits at my request. This place amazed Bill and I. Tar oozes up from below the ground and pits have formed, out of which scientists have removed many skeletons of mammoths and other ancient creatures. The tar still pops up here and there in the lawn, and these puddles are fenced in so folks don't step in the tar and get stuck! We watched bubbles of methane surface in the tar and in a pond nearby. The museum contains the fossils that have been recovered and the exhibits are very well done.
John then drove us to The Grove - an upscale shopping area that was set up like a Main Street in a small town. We had a great lunch at the Cheesecake Factory - our first visit to one of these! We also visited the American Girl Doll Store. That was pretty impressive - I never knew there were so many!
From there John drove us to Hollywood Boulevard so that we could see the Walk of Stars and Grauman's Chinese Theater. Watching people was lots of fun, and we enjoyed reading the cement impressions made by actors and singers in front of the theater (Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Matt Damon, and others). He then drove to the Universal City Overlook, way up Mulholland Drive which snakes up a big mountain. What a view!
Back home we had a little wine and then burgers for dinner. Perfect after the big lunch! A neighbor of the Zedros makes chocolates and we had some for dessert along with some macaroons Anne Marie bought at The Grove. A great end to a good day!
