Portoscuso

12 August 2012
Thursday
Set off for the 40 miles to Portoscuso quite early. The spinnaker was quickly hoisted but at first speed was slow. Eventually in the afternoon the wind and waves picked up and a few miles short of the target and eight hours later the spinnaker was dropped just in time before the wind was topping 20 kns. There were no anchorages marked near Portoscuso but we were convinced we could tuck into a bay somewhere… Unfortunately not – especially not now as the wind was funnelling between two islands and seemed to be increasing all the time. Not wanting to go into the marina yet we headed off for Isola de San Pietro – again no marked anchorage but Bob was convinced that one could be found. It was getting late and with another 5 miles to go marital relations were a little strained but at 7 knots it didn’t take too long. We slid past a line of rocks and joy of joys (for once) saw some other yachts at anchor and decided we did have a place for the night!
