Hi all,
I have been asked to accompany two commercial sailing captains on a Hinckley 52 from Virgin Gorda to Newport Rhode Island. I have been sailing for almost twenty years but nearly all day sailing experience. Can you tell me if this proposed trip sounds very dangerous at this time of year? The boat is only ten years old and in Bristol condition, however we have no way of knowing the weather once we are at sea except for VHF radio. What kind of weather can one expect at these latitudes at this time of year? Am I getting myself into something that is going to be a physical endurance test (I am 56 and not very athletic) Please advise. Thank you.
