CHECK OUT IN SOPERS HOLE
08 February 2011 | Sopers Hole, Tortola
Michele/sun & rainshowers
The last few days have been spent relaxing in Great Harbour with Miranda & Robin on Spiip (who were also kindly providing us with a free internet connection until Monday afternoon) and Ossi & Vanessa on Executive. It’s been very gusty and, for dry season we seem to be experiencing far too many rain showers, which has curtailed the snorkelling but the company has been good and the dinners enjoyable.
We woke up one morning to a terrible sound and vibration on the mizzen mast. A halyard had broken loose and flown into our wind generator, breaking a blade. Nic had to climb up and tie it off. Fortunately we can order a replacement blade and get our visitors to bring it out to us next week.
Our friends are flying in to meet us in the Dominican Republic on Friday so this morning we made our way over to Sopers Hole and will sail direct to Cap Cana. The anchorage was very busy and we were rather close to the ferry passage but the check out was fast and painless (a relief after the check in at Spanish Town) and we are now ready to set off. Looking at the weather and waves, we have decided it’s better to sail along the north coast of Puerto Rico to the Dominican Republic, than our planned route on the south coast.
