New Galley Counter Top

17 August 2013 | Marathon Fl
Sunny Hot Breezy
With the v-berth refinishing completed, we decided to begin the process of replacing the 40 some year old counter-tops on Ishmael. We purchased the Formica for all counter tops a couple of weeks ago. It is cut to rough size now but the detail work begins tomorrow.

We started with the Galley, and it is going pretty well. The actual wood had to be replaced due to leaks around the rims of the old sinks that were installed in a perplexing manner under the counter top.

Perhaps the installer was just 30 years ahead of his time. I however, elected to go with new, tried and true, surface mount sinks with a rim on top of the counter.

Tear out completed today. We will begin the re installation tomorrow.

We are adding a filtered water tap as well. This filter claims to remove everything but the wet part. There is already a particulate filter on all the water in Ishmael but for drinking, we thought the second more aggressive filter would be nice. It will also remove the need to use the Brita filter pitcher we use for drinking water.

My estimate was two days so Kathy is betting on two weeks... I'm going to win this one... I'm pretty sure. Ha Ha.

Life is good.
