Life in the marina

20 June 2012
The days passed while we were discovering Gran Canaria and Las Palmas. We soon became good customers at Rolnautic (the local ship chandler), as we found they had a lot of things we needed (or thought we needed), and very quickly could order what they didn´t have in stock. Most of all we needed a gangway, so we could berth stern to the pier. It was a waste to stay alone alongside at the gas station when the piers on the other side were very sociable for a third of the cost.

We had a bit of drama in the harbour when a yacht came in having lost its mast. The captain rushed over with the dinghy and helped them lifting it out of the water. The sailor was very lucky, that nothing more serious happened - sailing alone when the forestay broke.

Later on the captain had some problems himself with the Harbour Police, as he committed crimes like throwing sawdust in the water, and sailing the Happy Cat too close to the commercial harbour! Luckily it was all solved in friendly terms.
