Second and Third Day

08 February 2016
Bosse, Thorbjørn and Nina enjoying a ride on the waves

The wind turned to come more and more from behind, so the main went down and we sailed only with the genoa. The wind direction was steady and the speed varied from 15 to 28 knots. We kept steady course at a speed between 5 and 8 knots. The swell was increasing and varying from side to behind, and at times it became really bumpy and too difficult to cook; we consumed a lot of fresh baked baguettes with ham and cheese…
During the third night a new serious problem occurred. The batteries went flat. The reasons were insufficient monitoring, old batteries, and a hard working autopilot tuned to navigate in narrow waters. We just had to hand steer after the compass and wait for the sun to get up and start charging the batteries. The problem was solved and we learned a lesson. We also experienced that two electric toilets might be comfortable, but not in all conditions…….
