Plan C
03 May 2015 | Fort Pierce, FL
If anyone's been tracking us on the SPOT page, you'll notice that we came "inside" to the AICW yesterday morning at Fort Pierce inlet and are continuing to travel north.
At 0230 on Sat morning, May 2, the winds shifted from NW to NE, picked up in intensity to about 25 knots and the seas became a washing machine with waves 4-5' with occasional 6 footers. We got thrown around a lot and opted to come "in" at the next inlet. Luckily, I had been out Fort Pierce on the transit south in the fall so I knew well the inlet and the route from there north.
The problem was that we were still about 17 miles from Fort Pierce and didn't make it in until about 0630. It was a LONG rough night and by the time we dropped anchor inside the inlet, it was 0715 and we were exhausted. Ryan and I slept for about an hour and a half, got up and rinsed the boat from all the salt deposits, and then fueled and got underway up the AICW. Time for Plan C.
