Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

For the first time on this cruise, I am in my Tshirt. We made it to Roche Harbor by 1130 and dealt with the biggest customs officer I have ever seen. He was professional and humourless. After 30 minutes of jigging around, we had a cruising permit, and we are ready to party on for the USA.
It was overcast as we passed Stuart Island (see picture) and we had a completely uneventful motoring ride to Roche as there was a storming 2 knot wind from the S. As the day wore on the weather got better and better. We are now powering up the fridge with the solar panels.
RH is a very old little berg. It dates from the time of the Pig War in the late 1800s. Many of the buildings date back to that time. It seemed to be a going concern at the turn of 1900. Pretty slow now. However, in the summer season this place is hopping. Lots of boats and recreation.
This evening, I continued my winning ways at backgammon winning 3 straight. We gave up on games and did music (Anita on Melodian- me on guitar) until bedtime.

We got up at 0700 and straightaway got to the anchor and on our way. We motored, sailed, and eventually motorsailed our way into Port Angeles. The weather was cold and we both had our coastal cruiser coats on . It was W wind 5-15 knots and there was a lot of spray on the deck. Once into Port Angeles we got moorage. Karina took another scratch in her hind quarters getting away from the dock as it was so windy. The W wind held her against the dock. Anyhow, we arte safe and a little paint will cure Karina's ills. The seas were choppy and it wasn't much fun getting here today. It is by far more fun to sail than to motor.
