Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

As promised the S wind came up this morning and greeted Kaina with a little push on her bum as we went N. We presently have the genny out and are making 6.2 knots motorsailing. If we can keep this up, we can cut a couple of hours off our trip.
AKA saw us passing Punta Pulpito and so came out to play and pace along with us as we motored, sailed, motorsailed N.
The sea here is very reminiscent of Georgia Straight (yeah it will always be Georgia Straight for me). No swell, short period waves, generally N winds. Most often you can motor into it. About 0900 the S wind left us and, after Punta Santa Teresa, a N wind slowly came on and seems like it will dog us all the way to Punta Conception. Once we get there we head W. With our luck, the wind will die. That is not in the forecast though. Tonight the wind will be up to 30 knots from the west. For that reason we will give Bahia Santo Domingo a pass and head all the way to Bahia Coyote. We will look over Playa Santispac, but will probably go into better holding in the S cove.
