Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

In San Carlos

Jay/ Very Hot
Our Mexican Winnebago: Elvan (the van). We spent the best part of a week sleeping in the back on an air mattress on plywood on 4 milk crates.

We drove hard for 2 days and we made it all the way to San Diego. We were so buzzed from the drive we took a hotel room and slept 12 hours to recover. We then made the pilgramage to Downwind and West. West had a very helpful guy by the name of Ron Maggi who was ever so helpful in diagnosing my depthsounder troubles. We now have spend significantly more on a depthsounder than we were intending, but we are confident we have the right equipment.
After leaving San Diego in 70F we were into 106F degree temps crossing to Tucson. We were afraid we were going to die. Today we left Tucson for San Carlos and we hit 108F and were afraid we were not going to die.
Once in San Carlos Anita repented of her insistence on not reparing the air conditioning before leaving Canada. We went to a motel with a pool/air/wifi and have recovered enough to be able to consider the job on Karina.
With the help of Vagabundos we spent very little time at the border. I am so glad to have connected with them before we left Canada. We now have our car/boat insurance as well as our FMM (180 day tourist visa) and are ready to face the winter in style.
Tomorrow Karina comes into the workyard at 1300 and we will try to have her liveable by then.
