More El Cid

Jay working on the motor compartment. I spend my mornings here. What fun!
We are still at the El Cid Marina. We are still waiting for the parts for Bartholomew. Unfortunately, Total Yachts can’t do anything to speed things up, so we are left doing boat chores until the parts get here. Given the fact that Bartholomew is 30 next year, it is surprising they don`t have to raid a museum to find parts.
We have been in a bit of a bingo slump over the past few days. Haven’t won any T shirts or hats. We had Scott and Tom ( http://www.sailblogs.com/member/sveagle35/ ) over for an afternoon of jamming and swimming. Tom won a hat playing Bingo.
Yesterday we went off in quest of various little things that have been bothering us. One was a new set of guitar strings. The old ones were rusted and awful to play. After riding around for an hour, we came across a cool music store that had 2 C valve trombones. I tried the expensive one ($1400 USD) and it played very well for a valve trombone. If the boat bill is not too expensive, I may just get it. We also got the guitar strings (3 sets). Flushed with the success of the guitar string quest we went off in search of a 1 1/2” coupler for our sink. We went into the industrial park of S Mazatlan. Getting to the supplier of couplers, they produced every size of couplers except 1 1/2”.
We then headed back to the Malecon and home. Just before we got to the Malecon, I stopped at a drug store and asked about Lutein. We take Lutein for our eyes. Our doctor says it is the blue eyed curse. Well, just try to find a blue eyed Mexican! Anyhow, the drug store had it! We are now 2 for 3.
On the way home Anita’s bike broke down. The folding pedal on her bike broke off. We traded bikes and we hobbled the thing down to a bike shop and for $5 we bought a pedal (non folding) that will do for now.
Next we stopped by the bank that let us down for a cash withdrawal the day before. I tried the machine in the bank. No luck. I was ready to go, but Anita insisted I try the one outside the bank and, to my surprise, it worked!
After stopping at Mega for food, we came back to the boat with a very satisfying quest concluded. The sink is not a total loss as I have a plastic part that will probably get us through the season. When I get back to Nanaimo, I can buy parts that will do the job at any hardware store.
