Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

Fixing portlights

This is the day after the project on the starboard side is completed. It was a big project and was very well done as we have checked it by running water at the windows from every possible angle. I am very pleased. This will greatly affect our comfort on offshore passagemaking.
Today we took it easy and started getting supplies for the other side of the boat to be done sometime next week. We also got supplies to fix the chain locker. This way we have all we need to get the rest of the jobs going later this week. Herb Payson says cruising is fixing your boat in beautiful locations in the world. This is so true.
This morning I got a slow start on the day. During coffee I asked the long timers to explain what it means when the red and amber lights are on and the green is flashing on intersection lights. They couldn’t even make up a plausible explanation. I’m wondering if I even want to know. A mystery for sure. I think I will move on.
I went to a plumbing supply store and, after a lot of gesticulating and some weird smirks, I emerged from the store with all the fixings for the chain locker. I will attack that job tomorrow.
This afternoon we went off to buy some 3M 4000 at Lopez Marine. We also bought 20’ of rope and 3 carbines so we now have a great harness to lift the dinghy up on the deck – motor and all. In many places in Mexico you can’t leave your dinghy in the water or it gets stolen. I put it all together and it works great! Anita can run this harness. Anita is outside on the deck washing the starboard side as we got it all muckied up with the cleaning and resealing.
We have a wonderful meal tonight of beef tacos. Lime and coke to wash it down.
So far the weather has held. It is forecast to rain (60% chance) on Friday. If it does, I will take a picture and make a blog entry just for that event. It will be the second time we have ever seen rain in Mexico in the winter. Winter is the non-rainy season.
So…. to all you folks back home…. I have one important thing to say:
