Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

We washed the cetol today. We will put 2 coats of cetol on the brightwork and then we'll call it good for this year. The wood on the foredeck took the worst of it as the summer sun gave it a direct hit. We'll probably have to do something when we get back to Canada in the late summer of 2014.
Last night we went to the jam session. We found it a long evening. The quality of the talent made it even longer. On the good side, the wine was good and the cigarette smoke was way down. Even though it took a little reminding, the washrooms were up to standard.
In the absence of the regular weather guy, I have been doing the weather on the morning VHF net. I also was helping at coffee in the video section. A crabby guy came over and offered that he had a contrary opinion on the state of the winds on the Southern Crossing. Unfortunately, he declined to do weather tomorrow. So it looks like folks are stuck with me for a while longer. I will seek out volunteers on the net tomorrow. If anyone volunteers - they can go for it! I have no big hurt on to do the weather on the morning net. The regular guy is in the USA looking after his daughter who is struggling with a terminal illness. It is very sad to loose on of your kids. They are supposed to outlive us.
There is just one job waiting for us now: the port side windows. We will start on that next week. As the job list gets shorter and our time says the same, we will have a slow month in February. The windows will take 3 days (at best). I like being able to do this on 3 consecutive days, so we'll probably make it Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week.
