Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

Gulf Islands Part 9

Jay/Cool/wet
Anita couldn't stand my smell the previous night on Blackberry Point, so I had a cleanup in the evening before bed. That made the sleeping arrangements better.
The next morning dawned overcast. We were ready to head back to home and have a good cleanup. We were just finishing our packing up and the rain started to fall a little more seriously. We had almost everything in waterproof bags by then and we were on the beach launching the kayak. We paddled for about a mile when a nice S wind came along and pushed us towards Chemainus. Just as we were entering the harbour we actually had to bring down the genny as we were getting a little overcanvased. We didn't have too much trouble finding the launching ramp and we had the kayak up and ready to meet our son Jim. He arrived a couple of hours later. Anita went wild with picking blackberries while I walked the town and looked it over. By noon we were on our way home and 15 minutes after getting in the front door, the rain belted down. We spent the afternoon having showers and doing the laundry.
A nice 4 day journey.
