Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

Ready, set.....

I am returning from my 2nd last trip to Mom's doctor. So far, all is good for us to make our escape into the sunny south on Oct 21. We will blitz for the boat, stopping at my cousin's place to pick up a few treats for Karina.
It has been an eventful and somewhat stressful summer. I have run into a health issue that keeps doctors poking and prodding. As soon as I get home there will be a biopsy in a place where they "ought not look." I think the problem that skews the tests is dietary and I am going to make some changes once we hit the road that I hope will bring things right again by the end of our vacation. I am unsure of what the factor is, so it will take some trial and error over the winter.
As far as time goes, there has to be an end to things. So we were thinking about bringing Karina home next spring. However, with all the tests and doctors I have lined up, there won't be time to be on our way by late April. Therefore, we will have 2 plans: Plan A is to have one more winter in Mexico 2014-15 and return home in the spring of 2015. Plan B is to ship Karina home on a truck. We will leave Karina in San Carlos in a ready to ship position. I will disconnect all the masthead electronics and lash down things if she has to be put on a truck.
Plan B will only be engaged if it doesn't look like we can get down for Plan A.
There is a Plan C which is to head back to Canada way early (March?) and get the tests and proceedures done by late April and then fly down to Karina. I kinda like that one, but travelling in the Sea of Cortez in Feb-Mar is often slow while Northers howl down on us.
This getting old is no fun. It definitely doesn't get any better though. We both consider ourselves blessed to have taken on what we did do, so we are not feeling sorry for ourselves.
There are also friends and family back home that we would like to be a little closer to. I think that is 60% of why I want to get back. I miss the Nanaimo Concert Band and my Tuesday jam session boys a lot when I'm away.
Next summer I am going to put a mooring in front of our house. Between the mooring and winter moorage at Thetis Island Marina I think we can easily keep Karina housed for many years to come.
