Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

Not Ready

The almost completed project. All we need is a radar cable splice.
11/12
Today was a great day as the radar arch finally got finished! Raphael did a good job despite his low understanding of physics and poor English skills. We spent a few minutes with Juan in the office translating. Juan's English is excellent. We spent the rest of the afternoon working on restringing the wire for the radar, solar panels, and rear deck light. After that, I started working on the mounts for the solar panels. I have the rest of the job on the solar panels to finish tomorrow morning. I worked until 1700 before I gave up on the project.
As usual, Anita was Gidget the midget and went into the lockers to tail nuts so we could hold the arch steady enough to mount the radar and panels. The final seating of the arch will be Thursday morning when we have finished with the electrician. Anita was so full of fibreglass bits, she had a shower tonight. Anita quipped, "Is this what they mean when they talk about the sailing itch?"
I am looking forward to the end of this project as it has been a long haul for us. I have started watching the weather to see what is available to us. So far, we might have a 24 hour window on Sunday morning to go S. That could get us to Puerto Escondido. We had a straight shot at PV in mind, but as Mick says "You can't always get what you want."

After working furiously for 2 days, we managed to put the radar arch project to bed (at least as far as our part) one final problem has emerged: the inverter charger is not putting out like it should. Later on this afternoon, I will attack the connections with the last of the dialectric grease. We'll see what comes. I suspect there could be a weak connection. More likely, the old inverter/charger has passed away and needs replacement. Dan (Island Time) has agreed to help me get a new one here affordably. This will mean another B.O.A.T. unit (Break Out Another Thousand).
To get the new inverter installed will be at least another week in the marina. This isn't bad as there is a tropical storm brewing S of us, so we don't want to be out there at this point.
Late news- The tropical storm is on shore now and losing power. So, but for our electrical issues, we are good to go.
BTW- I will upload some pictures when I get decent wifi.
Later news- It appears that one of the 2 new batteries I bought has gone west. I will check tomorrow and see what can be done. The bank won't accept more than 12.8 as a charge. That is weak by battery standards. I never would have thought that new batteries could give us trouble. fortunately, we have a warrantee.
