Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

Wow, how appetizing! I don,t think corn will be on the menu tonight. I think the store put this out 10 years ago, and since it didn't sell, they figured there is no good reason to bring in new.

Unlike Firefly Mike, Jesus showed up on time and worked diligently in the lazarette for 2.5 hours soldering each individual connection. He then connected the shielding, wrapped the whole thing in aluminum foil and heat shrunk a seal for the whole splice. Afterwards, it didn't work immediately as the plug into the radar was a little weak. I went up and unplugged are replugged and the radar works as normal. Tomorrow, we will bring the excess gather back to the little hideout where I found it, and reload the lockers. We still have to carefully go through the truck and make sure all our spares are out and onboard.
I was impressed by Jesus' workmanship and diligence to doing a good job. When we first met Jesus, he was manager of the yard at Marina Seca. He was abruptly fired a year ago and he started working on refrigeration and electronics here in the San Carlos area. He speaks excellent English and cares about doing a good job. He says he is much happier than when he worked for Marina Seca and he certainly seems a happier guy.

Things are beginning to slow down here as we are in wait mode for weather for going S. We have been getting conflicting reports of weather forecasts in preparation for going S to PV.
This morning I BSed along the dock and BSed about weather over at the office. The prevailing wisdom is to head out on Tuesday. We were thinking about Saturday, but the weather forces on Monday are looking too strong here in the Sea.
Anita cleaned up the fridge compressor with CLR and then a coat of Rust primer. I supervised. The stress of keeping an eye on her efforts was enormous.
We both cleaned out and organized the truck. We got everything out of the truck that we would need for the boat in the winter.
This afternoon we will read and wait for our parts from Nautilus. When we get all that stuff aboard, there is no excuse for staying around other than weather.
We met up with Martin (Tinmar). He is a good friend of Heinz. We showed him where he could get his computer fixed. He is down here getting his boat ready to sell.
