Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

03/17
Another day of working on the shutdown of Karina.
We had a nice sail over to San Carlos. Again, we picked a perfect day for sailing. We left Santa Rosalia at 0300. We soon had sails up and were hurtling along with 20+ knots of wind on the beam. We reefed the main and we were still making 7+ knots. Around 0530 the wind settled down and we soon shook out the reef and sailed the rest of the way with full main and genny. The motor started as it should. It was quite frisky on the water as we entered the harbour at 1530. We decided that, since the Pemex station was about to close at 1600, we could BS our way into staying there until the wind settled. We had supper and went to bed. Anita got up for a pee at 2300 and noticed the wind had settled and we motored in to B-19 uneventfully. We have been there ever since.
The next day, we picked up the truck. As we were cleaning it out, we noticed a iphone that wasn't ours. The neighbour charged it up and from the risque picture on it, he identified the person who owned it. I returned it the next day telling the owner that he has ruined my marriage as all Anita could say after seeing the picture was, "Oh those wasted years!!"
We are well into decommissioning Karina at this point. The sails are washed and folded. One load of ropes are washed and drying. The next load is waiting to go on. There will probably be three loads total.
03/19
We are now about 1/2 decommissioned and are wondering what to do before we plunge into the last little bit. There are a few little things to do (change oil, masthead) and then we start into the process of making Karina unliveable. So we are going to slow things down here and do a lot more reading, watching movies, walks, and in general goofing off to kill time until early April when we complete the shutdown process.
