Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

November comes....

Jay/cool
Its nice here in the front room listening to jazz and typing away. Every hour we run the gas fireplace for 15 minutes. Today I will watch the BC Lions play until Anita tells me to turn it off.
We are watching our Mexico friends head S with a little longing. Not too much as we never cared for the frenetic packing and last minute house shutdown stuff. On top of that, we remember missing our beautiful little house and all the comforts. In spite of rainy and cool weather we have managed to take advantage in every break in the rain and we go biking and walking any chance we get. Today, we walked to Stephenson Point in the morning. This afternoon, we biked to Country Grocer and played music when we got home.
I have managed to slowly extricate myself from my dixieland band as I struggled with their group culture. In spite of our mutual goal of entertaining at seniors facilities, I am taking a step back to being an alternate Trombone and Bass player. Our Trombone quartet has resumed and we are all enjoying our Friday afternoons. The kayak is all laid up and dreams of sailing remain dreams until next spring. Our thoughts of destinations are turning more to the jazz festivals in Vancouver and Pender Harbour. BCA rendezvous' and swimming in Black Lake (Roscoe Bay). We are also looking into going over to Vancouver to do the fireworks in July.
We have got decent lights for our bikes as the early darkness has got us worried about safety. My new light is so strong, I think I could get a tan from it. Keeps the road nicely lit for riding though (700 lumens). We doubled up the old light for Anita's bike and, though it is not as bright as mine, it seems to do the the job.
