Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

Off to Singapore for a Sling!!!

16 February 2017 | Park Royal Hotel, Singapore
Jay/ Hot/Humid
Anita never found a pool she didn't like. This one was cold though.

We got Chris to drop us at the 0630 ferry and made it down to YVR in good time. We found China Air to be very professional and most polite. The stewardesses were all turned out very neat and beautiful. They fed us well and the preferred seating made it easy to stand up whenever we needed to for a stretch. Anita entertained the passengers with her clever dance moves. They fed us twice on the way to Beijing and once more on the way to Singapore. Waaaaay better food than Air Canada (I regret to say). The plane cabin was very clean and modern looking.
By the time we checked in to the Park Royal Hotel, I had a slight headache from being in one place for so long. I should have found the hotel in Beijing a little sooner and we could have got a decent rest. For anyone's reference, it is right across from Gate E-10. You rent the room by the hour (?????).
Arriving at Singapore was a breeze and the ride into town was quick and smooth. Everything is in English (including the electricity. The hotel rooms have 1-15 (110) plug and 1-10 (110) in the WC for the razor. The hotel restaurant is pricy, but we found an excellent food court down the road a few blocks. I did buy a universal adapter for $12.50 S which is a way better deal I could get in Canada. This way we can tour Europe in succeeding years if we can get a good deal.
