Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

On the road again.....

Jay Bigland | Sunny/cool/windy
April 30 With vaccinations, doctors, and repairs now behind us, we did the last provisioning and spent the night on the boat, ready for an early departure.
May 1 Sunny day. Left the dock at 6:30AM and came in tandem with Nanamuk to Pirates Cove. We walked the west side of the island and the park. We examined the bar at low tide for any remains of props, or lead from boaters cutting the bar. We only found evidence of a few scars. It was a zero tide, so it was interesting to see parts of what lies beneath. At low tide we only had about a foot of water under our keel. The water was very clear, and the bottom quiet visible. We talked to a couple on shore that had 2 young kids. They wanted to harvest oysters at the low tide. Being already May (well past the"R" months of March and April) I asked if they had a testing kit for the safety of eating oysters. They had never heard of ""red tide" PSP shell fishing poisoning that can happen if the harvest is when the waters are warmer. I suggested they could get a cat to test out first rather than poisoning themselves, but the husband just laughed it off and said he'd be the tester. I hope those kids still have a dad. I guess if one burys their head in the sand, the Problem doesn't exist. Jay rowed over for a chin wag with Rob and Grace, while I prepped supper. We had precooked from home chicken with salad, yogurt berries and almonds. Had an action movie and then off to bed.
