Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

Anita Bigland | Sunny/warm
E side of Thetis Island heading N

May 11 The weather is getting warmer, and though it was tempting to go to Pirates Cove, the tides would make it difficult to get out at the time we wanted and would have required hauling anchor and re anchoring at the south end to wait for a slack at Dodd Narrows. Too much fiddling around. I was anxious for my home shower stall, and was also wanting to get something done about these bothersome scratchy blood shot eyes. We headed directly home, missing our favourite Newcastle Island.
May 12 Eyes were not a bacterial infection, as they were being treated for, but turned out to be allergies. It was nice to see my optometrist, rather than the Victoria doctor who tried to diagnose across the phone with no pictures even accepted by his office. I hate this Covid time when doctors won't look at you, and take a wild guess across a phone. Even at home it wouldn't be until June before my doctor could talk to me across the telephone and not see me at all! I could be blind by then. This working from home is leaving people with no health care when they need it. Thankfully Jay thought about our optometrist, who prescribed me some drops which gave me immediate results.
