July 4th Cruise - Day 4

We had a delightful shower in the morning and then spent some time on the rooftop of Trump's hotel at the swimming pool. Bliss!
Funny thing happened while we were there. A sweet little girl and her dad showed up to have a swim.
The dad casually asks how old Luke is. I say 4 and a half.
The dad says, "Same as you, Grace.”
I say, "Well, actually he'll be 5 soon.”
"Grace, too. In August.”
"Luke, too. On the 20th.”
"Grace, too, on the 20th.”
"Now that is uncanny. Grace, wouldn't it be funny if your mommy and I were in the same hospital?”
"Yeah, that would be crazy. She was in Denville, NJ.”
"No kidding, Saint Clare's, Denville.”
"No way!”
"Now hang on, I recognize you, we attended the same Birthing Classes at the hospital. Your wife had long dark hair.”
Well, imagine that! Maybe we'll meet up with them in another 5 years. Luke and Grace will both be 10years old.
Brian arrived just in time for lunch at about 12:30. He had just got in by bus from Teterboro, New Jersey. We enjoyed our lunch together, went and used the facilities at the marina and were off. We motored up a little creek behind the finger of land that Trump's Hotel and Casino are on, on the side of Atlantic City closest to the big sports arena. We crept up and down the creeks at low RPM, way off our charts, using forward looking sonar as our only guide. After finding a promising site we tried anchoring twice with the CQR, but dragged both times because of weeds on the bottom, with a 2 knot current. We changed to the Danforth and it held tight.
In the afternoon we introduced Brian to our onboard kite flying entertainment. Brian whipped out a fancy, little sports camera that we taped to the kite string and let out over Jabulani. Philip, Brian and Luke played all afternoon with it trying to get some really good aerial shots of us. Another yacht who was anchored close to us, "Detroit Copper", didn't reply to any of our attempts to chat with him via our VHF radio. It would have been fun to say, "Hi.”
We were surprised at supper time to be joined by a number of other boats only to find that we had ring side seats to the fireworks that were let off from the arena close by. Philip made us a great serving of popcorn. He was a little generous pouring the un-popped corn into the pot and so at pop time it popped and popped until it totally overflowed the pot and proceeded to fly all over the galley. I think Philip may even have found some in the bilge if he looked closely enough. What a popcorn feast we had! The kids enjoyed playing with some glowsticks that I had picked up at a sale after last fourth of July and saved for such a time as this. They waved them, made necklaces with them, found a way to break them and splatter us and the decks with glow fluid - all until Luke dropped his overboard and the fun ended in tears and a quick retirement to beds and sleep.
